Physician's Biography

INTRODUCTION
Dr. Mark Niedfeldt grew up in Wisconsin and loves living in Mequon with his wife and three children. Dr. Niedfeldt has served the residents of Milwaukee for the last several years as Associate Professor, clinician, teacher, researcher, and Associate Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship program at the Medical College of Wisconsin. In 2008, Dr. Niedfeldt wanted to make a change by giving up his academic practice and opening a family practice in Mequon. Not just any kind of practice – a practice that alters the way care is delivered and focuses on the patient and on prevention.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Dr. Niedfeldt graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater magna cum laude and went on to earn his medical doctorate from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his residency in Family Medicine through the Medical College of Wisconsin’s program at St. Mary’s Hospital, where faculty and peers nominated him as Chief Resident. With a keen interest in both primary care and sports medicine, Dr. Niedfeldt subsequently completed a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine, also at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

ACADEMIC CAREER
Dr. Niedfeldt then joined the Medical College of Wisconsin, in 1996, as a faculty member in the departments of Family and Community Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery. In this role he received multiple teaching and innovative educational project awards. He has published original articles in several medical journals, written numerous reviews, abstracts, and book chapters and has lectured at medical meetings both locally and nationally.

CURRENT AFFILIATIONS AND INTERESTS
Dr. Niedfeldt is currently on the medical staff at Froedtert, as well as Columbia St. Mary’s-Ozaukee. With his avid interest in sports medicine and athletics, Dr. Niedfeldt enjoys serving as team physician for the Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Wave, the US National Snowboarding Team, Wisconsin Lutheran College, Concordia University and the Milwaukee Ballet. In his spare time, you might see Dr. Niedfeldt around town biking with Team Geargrinder, on a running trail, or even offering a lecture to his daughter’s 5th grade class.

MEDICAL PHILOSOPHY
Dr. Niedfeldt believes that maintaining an active lifestyle is the key to prevention and is a mandatory ingredient to good health. Combining technology with an in-depth knowledge of each patient helps Dr. Niedfeldt provide his patients with practical medical guidance. Believing that medicine is an art as well as a science, Dr. N emphasizes that much can be done to shape our futures and to live longer, healthier lives.

Dr. Niedfeldt’s practice provides an entirely different approach to medical care. Dr. Niedfeldt is a modern physician offering old-fashioned service and care. The patient experience is always considered first. Dr. Niedfeldt and his staff get to know each patient and work hard to offer a warm, relaxed and friendly environment. Treatment is determined in partnership with the patient only after a careful assessment of the patient’s health needs is completed. Dr. Niedfeldt offers primary care with an eye toward prevention and aging well. This dual approach helps each patient learn lifestyle choices that will support healthy aging.

Dr. Niedfeldt believes that each individual has the power to achieve his or her own health goals, with a high level of wellness. His practical, communicative approach, along with his medical assessment skills, have helped hundreds of patients to be well and stay well. It is this approach that earned Dr. Niedfeldt the honor of being designated as one of the Best Doctors in America (2007-2008).
